Welcome to Preschool at Fairless Local Schools |
|
The Stark County ESC works in collaboration with eleven local school districts to provide preschool services to children 3-5 years of age who have been identified as developmentally delayed in one or more of the following areas: communication, vision, hearing, motor skills, social emotional/behavioral functioning, self-help skills, and/or cognitive skills.
The Early Childhood curriculum is aligned with The Ohio Department of Education's Early Learning and Development Standards. These standards establish benchmarks that impact future learning. All programming is targeted to give children early support and build a strong knowledge-based foundation. The program follows Ohio's child care licensing standards. These guidelines provide a framework for program operation, conditions for teaching, learning, and accountability. Adults who care for and education young children also shape the children's understanding of themselves, others, and the world around them.
Preschool Screening
What is screening?
- Teachers and therapists will interact with your child while they play. Staff will be observing their language, social skills, emotional behavior, attention, and motor skills.
- If a delay is suspected, your child may be referred for additional screenings or evaluations.
Does Fairless run this preschool?
- Our preschool is a collaboration between the Stark County Educational Service Center and Fairless Local Schools. The preschool program has received a Gold Step Up to Quality Rating from the Ohio Department of Education, the highest rating a preschool can receive!
Can anyone attend this preschool?
- All three and four-year-old children with and without developmental delays are eligible, with enrollment priority given to four-year-old children, children with identified disabilities, and children with an economic disadvantage. Tuition is based on income eligibility.
- Parents are required to turn in two consecutive pay stubs, income tax information, or other acceptable proof of income to help determine placement and tuition cost. Pay stubs must be dated after February 1st. Parents may need to resubmit documentation in August in order to determine tuition payment. Maximum tuition would be $160/month.
What are the preschool days and times?
- Our preschoolers attend half-days Monday through Thursday. No classes are held on Friday.
- Morning classes meet from 8:30-11:20 and afternoon classes meet from 12:25-3:15.
When will I know if my child is able to attend this preschool?
- You will receive an email in May. After all paperwork and screening information is reviewed, your child will be assigned a tentative classroom or possibly put on a waiting list.
- If placed in the preschool program, you will be asked to complete an online enrollment packet for the Stark County Educational Service Center.
Are preschoolers able to ride the bus?
- Preschool students can ride the regular elementary bus in the morning and afternoon.
- There is one mid-day preschool bus that covers the entire district. To keep the length of time our preschoolers are on the bus manageable, there are group stops in each community.
Are all classes the same?
- We serve students in three classrooms. Two classrooms are integrated with 50% of the class made up of typical peers as well as 50% students with disabilities. One classroom prioritizes placement of students who qualify as economically disadvantaged.
